Dorothy Stonely Photographs
StonelyPhoto01, 1890s cabinet card by H W Newton of East Molesey, Surrey
The fist photograph in the album and potentially therefore one of the most important. Portrait of a woman holding a letter. Far from being a wedding photograph this image seems to say "I got your letter and I'm not happy" The woman is wearing typical 1890s dress in a dark fabric with velvet trimmings and a cascade of bows. Possible this could be semi-mourning. She also looks quite tubby around the waist so might be expecting a child. A rather lovely double rope of pearls hangs from a brooch. A photo with a story that will probably never be known.
