FGOS_00185, Edwardian postcard of Netley Abbey by FGO Stuart

Old Postcards

Affordable postage costs, multiple daily deliveries, attractive cards and advances in printing combined to create a craze for buying and sending postcards in the Edwardian era.  At a time when few people owned a camera, postcards by local photographers are sometimes the earliest photographic images.  Postcards could also be a  keepsake of public or family events and travellers bought  colourful views to send home.

Our growing collection includes a gallery where you can read postcard messages,  mapped to the address they were sent to.

Postcards are scanned from original cards dating more than 70 years ago. Additional copyright checks have been carried out per publisher and these postcards are understood not be in copyright. If you think otherwise please do contact us.
