1902 Mrs Sweets Baby
Studio portrait scanned from a glass negative by Henry Dunning of Usk, Monmouthshire. In 1901 Mr Walter Sweet (House Painter and Plumber) and his wife Florence Louise Sweet lived in Bridge Street just along from the photographer with their two children Walter and Madeline. A baptism is found for another child of Florence (Lionel Tom Sweet) who was born in November 1901 so this photo is almost certainly him in spring 1902, perhaps to celebrate his Baptism. By 1911 the family have four children altogether with the arrival of Frank Alan in 1909. As well as her family duties Florence is listed as 'assisting in the business' and their eldest son has left school and at 15 is helping his father as a house painter. Despite all this industry it seems the money is insufficient as they have taken in two boarders a dress maker and a tailor operating from what must have been a very busy household.
