Leach24, 1890s cabinet card by John Blackburn of Colne
A slightly unusual photograph that appears to have been taken in the street. The family shown have four boys and the seated woman looks like she may be expecting another child. She wears leg of mutton sleeved dress with her hair severely pulled back. She has no jewellery and neither the father or eldest boy have a watch chain. They have donned the best clothes they have, including a fancy collar for the youngest child, but the impression is rather down at heel. A rug has been spread on the pavement for the boys and a fur rug disguises the chair she sits in. A boot scraper is on the wall, suggesting a door to the left.
