Then and Now
In 2021, an intrepid local man set out on a mission to see if he could find and recreate some of the 1940's Ordnance Survey Revision Points photographs in the Ancoats area of Manchester. Adopting the pose of the labourer who held the pointer each time, and carefully mirroring the viewpoint these photos clearly show the changes that have taken place in the city.
The names of the original men are unknown, but the modern version include Michael Sherrington and by his kind permission, this collection is now here for everyone to enjoy.
A map of the location of the photos is at the end of the page. Should you be inspired to do something similar you can easily see the location of old photos on this website. On a mobile click the 3 dots under a photo and choose Photo Details. Scroll down to the map. Swipe to find the next photo and the map will refresh.
