If we know where a photo was taken we capture its location.

Maps (and satellite images) can help you find where the photographer was when they took the picture; perhaps even inspiring you to take a new photo  'standing in their shoes'. 

For Victorian portraits a map can reveal the distribution of family members, both near and far.
